Jake Powell: Dealing with non-football injury
Powell (undisclosed) was waived by the Saints with a non-football injury on Friday, per the NFL transaction page.
Analysis: Powell signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent April 28, but now appears to have sustained a non-football injury. The Monmouth product may likely be headed for the NFI list, but more should become clear as time goes on.
J.D. Moore: Let go by Chiefs
Moore was cut by the Chiefs on Friday, per the NFL transaction page.
Analysis: Moore was placed on injured reserve after being waived by the Chiefs in June of 2018. The LSU product appears to be healthy now, but has not seen any regular-season action in the NFL and will have to look for that opportunity with another squad.
Stacey Coley: Let go by Jets
Coley was cut by the Jets on Friday.
Analysis: Coley signed a reserve/future contract with the Jets back in January after appearing in games for both the Vikings and Giants during the 2018 season. The Miami product has yet to catch an NFL pass through five career games and now will have to search for it with another squad.
Frank Gore: Challenge for carries
Gore, signed by the Bills as a free agent in March, is part of a crowded running backs corps after the Bills signed veteran T. J. Yeldon in April and then drafted Devin Singletary in the third round of the 2019 Draft.
Analysis: Gore still sits as the clear-cut No. 2 behind LeSean McCoy given that Yeldon was brought on more for his receiving ability and Singletary is unproven at the pro level, but these developments certainly crowd things up. We’ll also mention that Gore turns 36 this week. Add all that together and it’s hard to see Gore getting the volume that merits fantasy value, other than a long-term injury to McCoy or the Bills cutting ties with Shady. We’d explore a possible goal-line role for Gore, but he surprisingly hasn’t scored a rushing touchdown since Week 12 of the 2017 season.
Sammie Coates: Waived by Kansas City
Coates was waived by the Chiefs on Friday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Coates’ time with the team didn’t last very long, as he just signed with the team back in February. Coates was always going to be hard-pressed to make Kansas City’s final roster, as the team’s roster boasted plenty of talented catchers before his arrival.
Martez Carter: Let go by Saints
Carter was waived by the Saints on Friday, Josh Katzenstein of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Analysis: Carter spent just over a week with the Saints’ practice squad last season before signing a reserve/future contract back in February. He’ll now be back on the open market once he clears waivers.
Jake Powell: Cut by New Orleans
Powell was waived by the Saints on Friday, Josh Katzenstein of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Analysis: Powell signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent, but his time in New Orleans ends up being short-lived. Powell most recently finished up his career at Monmouth University.
Brandon Wilds: Cut by Cardinals
Wilds was released by the Cardinals on Friday.
Analysis: Wilds signed a reserve/future contract with the Cardinals after spending a few months on the team’s practice squad. He has been released in order to create roster space for the signing of undrafted free agents.
