MLS Predictions and Betting Tips for 23rd July 2017

We have almost reached the tail end of the 2017 MLS season and it is a tight tussle for the 12 play-off spots. In Western Conference, the top 7 teams are separated by a meager 6 points. While Eastern Conference are witnessing Toronto and Chicago Fire sitting at a comfortable distance at the top. But the teams ranked 3 and 9 are separated by a 10 point. We are in for a dramatic finish to the regular season.

League take a look at this Saturday’s overnight fixtures from the league, running through Sunday’s late kick-offs.

1. DC United vs Houston Dynamo

Kick-off 0:00 UK, Saturday 23rd July

DC are arguably the worst team in the whole of MLS with 18 points in their bag. Sitting at the foot of the Eastern Conference table, they look for a morale boosting win when they take on a lackluster Houston Dynamo. DC lost 9 of their last 12 matches. However, the schedule has not been kind to them, having played 6 of the last 8 on the road. They are unbeaten in the last 2 home games, something that could add a little confidence in picking a win against a Houston Dynamo side, who are yet to win an away game this season.

  • Draw no Bet – DC United for 1.73 odds with Bet365.

2. Toronto FC vs Colorado Rapids

Kick-off 0:00 UK, Saturday 23rd July

This is a clash between teams at the opposite ends of the league table. The Canadians are sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference, while Colorado are second from last in the West.

TFC are getting back to home after playing three consecutive games on the road. At home, they are unbeaten this season and are coming on the back of a 7 match winning run. Colorado Rapids lost all their 7 away games this season and do not expect them to take anything from this match.

  • Home Win for 1.50 with Pinnacle is a banker.
  • Brave Punters will go for HT/FT – TFC/TFC for 2.18 odds with Unibet.

3. Columbus Crew vs Philadelphia Union

Kick-off 0:30 UK, Saturday 23rd July

Both teams are coming on the back of some inconsistent run and are not particularly strong in home or away matches. With Philadelphia ending Crew’s home dominance stadium winning two matches last season, this fixture is too close to call. However, we can put our trust in the goal markets as both teams scored in 9 MLS fixtures between them at the MAPFRE Stadium.

  • Both Teams to Score is a banker for 1.62 odds with Bet365.

4. New England Revolution vs Los Angeles Galaxy

Kick-off 0:30 UK, Saturday 23rd July

The New England are steering in familiar waters. After showing some promises at the start of the campaign, they have fallen to shreds and are sitting just a spot above the bottom of the Eastern Conference. They lost four games on the bounce now and let in 10 goals. Meanwhile, Galaxy are in exact the same shape as their opponents. They also lost their last four conceding 11 goals in total. With none of these teams able to dominate each other in previous duels, we turn our focus to the goal markets and bank on Over 2.5 goals, mainly because of their porous defenses.

  • Over 2.5 goals at 1.62 odds with Betfair.

5. Montreal Impact vs FC Dallas

Kick-off 0:30 UK, Saturday 23rd July

It has been tough season for Montreal Impact and they sit 5 points below the play-off zone in the Eastern Conference. Their inability to win matches has been evident throughout the campaign, but there is still time to make a comeback. Among the positives is their home form. The Impact pulled off four wins on the bounce at the Saputo stadium and looks once again like the team with confidence to outscore any visiting opponent. FC Dallas, despite their position at the top of the Western Conference failed miserable in away matches this season. Nor did they manage to win in two visits to Montreal so far. This will be three points for the Canadian side.

  • FT – Montreal to win for 2.50 odds with Betfair.

6. Real Salt Lake vs Sporting Kansas City

Kick-off 3:00 UK, Saturday 23rd July

Sporting KC is the best defensive side in the league. They are a confident bunch after moving up to the pole position in the Western Conference table. However, the most recent performances have been underwhelming. Only 2 wins came from the last eight, which includes 4 draws in the latest 6 unbeaten games along with 2 losses.

Salt Lake has been the most inconsistent side in the league this season. But they can be lethal when you expect the least of them. They are coming on back-to-back away wins, scoring a whooping 10 goals in the 4-1 and 6-2 humblings of Portland and LA Galaxy.

Also, RSL are unbeaten in the last three home matches against Kansas. Do not expect this to be an easy run for the current Western Conference leaders.

  • FT – Draw no Bet – Real Salt Lake at 1.91 with Betfair.
  • Both Teams to Score at 1.75 odds.

7. Vancouver Whitecaps vs Portland Timbers

Kick-off 23:30 UK, Sunday 24th July

Portland Timbers are a team in low confidence as their win-less streak is extended to 7 matches with a humbling 4-1 defeat at home to Real Salt Lake on the mid-week. The Whitecaps are pretty solid at home having picked up 5 wins from their last 7 matches. The Canadians look good for a win here, with Timbers in addition to their underwhelming form haven’t won in 7 away games.

FT – Whitecaps to win is a banker for 1.90 odds with Bet365.

8. Seattle Sounders vs San Jose Earthquakes

Kick-off at 3:30 am UK, Monday 25th July 2017

The Sounders pulled their season back on track with an excellent run of results at home. They unbeaten run with 4 wins and a draw clawed them into the play-off zone, however they are sitting on the edge as the 7 placed San Jose are just a point behind.

Meanwhile, San Jose Earthquakes are coming in worst possible shape. They lost back-to-back games and that too on heavy margins – 5-1 at NYRB and 4-2 at the newly promoted Atlanta. It will be hard to stop another humiliation at the Century Link Field.
